Watching the news has been tough lately. It’s just not very good out there. We see posts about people who are hurting others. There is scary stuff that seems to be inching it’s way closer and closer to our homes and loved ones. Not to mention the personal battles we face every day. I would guess that not one of us has not been touched by tragedy at some point.
But, this is what I want to share with you. We win!
I’ve written before about how struggle with worry. And I confess, sometimes it still just gets to be too much. I want to crawl in a hole and hide. But, then the God of all comforts gently calls me out.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Oh, how I love this passage of scripture. First, because it comes straight from my Savior, but second because of this truth. Jesus has already given us HIS peace. And the next sentence just gets better. He doesn’t give us peace as the world gives. The world can only offer us small physical securities. The truth of the matter is that it doesn’t matter how much money we have in the bank, or the what kind of super-duper locks we have on our doors, or how big our nations military is, they do not guarantee peace in our lives.
So how do we find peace amidst all the evil and chaos that seems to fill the earth?
I believe it starts with where we put our trust. The enemy would really like you to put your faith in those physical methods of protection, or even better put our head in the sand and hide. Because if you put your hope in worldly securities or hide altogether, it pretty much guarantees that you will not be effective for Christ.
However, if we instead choose to accept the peace that Christ has given us, we will find that there is nothing in this earth that we need fear.
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
1 John 4:4
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just need that reminder.
Thank you for giving us your peace. Thank you that you are greater than anything or anyone in this world that comes against us. Father, today we take hold of the peace you have already given us. Knowing nothing has ever taken place, nor is anything happening, nor will any future event take place that you do not know about or have your hand in. Thank you Father that we can trust you in all these things and rest in Your peace. Show us how we can be brightly shining lights within this dark world, proclaiming Your Kingdom until the day you come.
In Jesus mighty name, Amen.
